Barbara Vimont is an experienced compliance officer with valuable breadth and depth of compliance expertise. She currently serves as deputy chief compliance officer for Summa Health, an integrated healthcare delivery system headquartered in Akron, Ohio that includes hospitals, home health, hospice, physician practices and an Accountable Care Organization. Prior to Joining Summa Healthcare, she was the regional compliance officer for University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio, where she is primarily responsible for compliance and HIPAA activities for approximately 1,200 academic and community-based physicians.
Prior to joining University Hospitals in 2013, she worked for more than 17 years at Akron General Health System, starting as a supervisor in Health Information Management before becoming the compliance manager in Patient Financial Services. She then served as compliance officer for the health system for eight years, obtaining her law degree from the University of Akron School of Law during that time. Professor Vimont spent four years as associate legal counsel, providing guidance on various health law matters, then added responsibilities of director of sponsored programs with Akron General’s Research Department before leaving the Health System. Professor Vimont also teaches Health Law I at the University of Akron School of Law.
In addition to her Juris Doctor, Professor Vimont has a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Bachelor of Science degree in medical records administration from Texas State University.
